Kid’s Playroom Storage Ideas
Your kid’s room may take a hazmat suit to enter, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Giving them spaces to put their belongings and a routine for putting them away not only instills good habits but keeps you from having to clean up after them. Their future spouses will thank you. These kid room storage ideas will help you make their rooms worth stepping into.
Kid’s Playroom Storage Ideas
Let’s face it, right, wrong, or otherwise spoiling your kids with the latest and greatest toys is just something that happens. But your intentions may be greater than your space. Having plenty of clever storage ideas will help you keep up with the clutter AND help get those tiny hands involved when it comes to being responsible for keeping up with the chaos. Give some of these things a try.
Storage benches
Storage benches, or what used to be known as toy boxes, are a great idea. You can upholster the top and turn them into cushioned seating. If you are handy, you can build them the length of a wall and make it look like a custom built-in or buy a pre-made box and upholster and decorate it yourself for a cozy corner or end of the bed storage and seating area.
Stackable crates
There are plenty of cubes and crates available in various configurations to stack and make as cute as you want them to be. Paint the insides of the cubes colors that match your decor to give them a customized look and brighten up the room.
Spice rack shelves
Attach spice racks to the wall to make cute book racks. This way, kids can see their favorite books and take out what they want without making a mess, and they can put them back themselves-just be sure you hang them at a height your kids can reach.
Under-bed storage
Take advantage of the space under the bed for additional storage. There are some great storage options on wheels that can easily slide in and out that even a child can manage. If you are storing extra belongings under their bed, there is definitely no room for monsters!
Create a play table
You can create or buy a play table. There are ones that are hollow inside for storage or that have a Lego-based top. Ones with roadways painted on them for imaginative play with cars and trucks. Or make one with a plain tabletop for dollhouses with a hinged lid to store all the bits and pieces that go along with it.
Bring in a hutch
Hutches aren’t just for kitchens. A hutch makes for a great kid’s room storage idea. You can use the drawers for clothes or storage for toys and the upper shelves for books or displays of their favorite things. If you are handy, refinish the cabinet and paint in colors to match their bedroom.
Storage baskets
Storage baskets and bins are always a great idea. You can assign each bin a topic. Everything Paw Patrol goes in this basket while Bluey goes in this one, and so on. Your child will know where each item is when they play and can easily pull out the basket and put everything away before moving on to the next thing.
Multi-purpose furniture
Multi-purpose furniture is always the way to go when you talk about kids and all the functions their rooms need to manage. This can be a loft bed with a desk underneath or a bunk bed with a couch. The toy box with seating. Anything that can do double duty will save space.
Rolling Cart
Use a rolling cart (you can find them at craft stores or Ikea) to organize belongings. Create things like a mobile craft area, Lego central, study center, and book nook. Whatever you can think of that fits all of one type of belonging that can be wheeled about.
Back of the Door
When tight on space and looking to organize, use the back of the door. You can hang coats, sports equipment, even bags of lightweight toys on the back of doors. Don’t be afraid to get creative with some decorative hooks. Or buy a pocketed shoe organizer to hold cars or Barbies. There are a lot of opportunities waiting to happen on the back of the door.
Days of the Week
Invest in a closet organization system and then divide things up by days of the week and put their outfits in there. This makes it easy for kids to dress themselves without making a mess of their closets. Have them help pick out their outfits and fold them up one day of the week at a time. Underwear, shirt, shorts, or dresses, Everything. Make it as effortless as possible, and your mornings will be so much easier that you might get out of the house on time.
Winding Down
There are some fabulous kid room storage ideas that even the smallest spaces can implement. They will make your life easier, I promise. Make sure to enlist the help of your little ones in the upkeep. Pride of ownership starts at an early age. Keeping a kid’s room organized is more than just having clever kid room storage ideas. It is about instilling good habits and routines too.
